3 Things all Horse Owners Should Have in Their Phones

In case of an emergency, here are 3 things all horse owners should have in their phones

  1. Your horse’s resting TPRs

    • TPR stands for Temperature, Pulse, and Respiratory rate. Knowing your horse’s vitals when they are healthy and relaxed means you are able to take them when you suspect illness or colic, and compare the two. This way you can detect a problem early on.

  2. Video of your horse lunging at walk, trot, and canter without any tack/ boots ideally

    • Ever watched your horse go, and feel like they’re not quite right, but not be able to pinpoint it? When you have videos of them moving soundly, it’s easier to compare the two and see what the problem might be.

  3. Emergency contact info- vet, farrier, emergency vet, emergency friend who can get to your horse, you and your spouse/ family’s contact info on your horse’s stall.

    • When my heart horse broke his leg, I was three hours away visiting family. My phone was shut off. Luckily, the barn owner was able to get in contact with my friend to go help my horse, and get in contact with my family who connected us. It’s important for not only you to know who to call in an emergency, but for everyone else at the barn to know how to get in touch with you.

Do you have these three things in your phone? Comment below if you’d like a demonstration on how to take your horse’s TPRs!
